These are a few of my favorite things

I feel like I started off this year fairly consistent. As the year went on, it definitely got harder to keep up with consistently blogging. I’m sure some of you noticed. I’ve been off and on for a few months. With that being said – I wanted to make sure I was still on the radar with another post for the holiday season.

The holiday season is usually busy season for bloggers with giveaways and gift guides galore. I fell off the wagon a bit with posting, but managed to keep content coming on Instagram. I adventured a little bit on Tik Tok and spent far too much time on Twitter – but that’s another matter. So let’s talk about December.

The Look of the Month

The look of the month came at my Christmas holiday party. I wish I’d gotten better photos. I wore a satin dress with ruching on one side and black patent leather heels with my fur coat and Gucci bag. The steel blue dress looked amazing with my (new) red hair! (Surprise – this is my first blog post with red hair, if you haven’t seen it yet on my Instagram!)

You can shop the whole look here and everything should still be in stock!

Even though I consider myself to be in fairly good shape and pretty body confident, I also wore shapewear with my dress to make sure it looked perfect. I tend to be a pretty big fan of shapewear and often find myself wearing it with dresses to perfect a very seamless look under clothes. Even for the most in-shape people, it can help make everything look smooth. I used a skirt slip, but there are options out there for every holiday dress and outfit. (You can probably still get one in time for New Years!)

My New Red Hair

As previously mentioned, I now have red in my hair. I had highlights in high school, but eventually grew them out in college because they were expensive and difficult to maintain.

Needing a change and not wanting to cut all my hair off, I decided to add a bit of red. It’s been one of the best things I’ve done this year; I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out! If you’re looking for a hairstylist, you can check mine out here!

Thrifting at Uptown Cheapskate

I recently discovered Uptown Cheapskate in Chandler and quickly became obsessed. They have some of the cutest jackets, accessories, and more! I picked up a few sweaters, hats, and jeans from them in time for the holidays. I even won a Kendra Scott necklace from one of their giveaways on Instagram! It’s safe to say I’m hooked.

Fur + Teddy Coats

Ok, so this is nothing new, but I’m still hooked on teddy jackets. I have a few I purchased last season as well as a fur coat I picked up for the holiday party this year. The green one I’m wearing in this photo is coincidentally from Uptown Cheapskate as well.

Wearing More Color

This year, I feel like I’ve been wearing a lot more color. Now that my hair has red, I feel like I’ve also had the opportunity for more fun color options in my wardrobe. Just the other day I wore a red Christy Dawn dress with red lipstick and it created a cool monochrome look, a bit similar to this one. (Side note – even though the dress isn’t pictured in this post, it’s one of my favorite dresses! You can pretty much wear it anywhere!)

More Unique Outfits

The other thing I made of point of trying to do this year was expanding my personal style. I wanted to try out more unique pieces and pairings this year and working with Uptown Cheapskate really helped me do that. I tried funky thifted sweaters and found pieces I would have never bought in the retail store (just look at these fun rhinestone jeans!) that I added to my closet for a more unique style. I really ventured out this month and felt like the whole year brought me into my own personal style.

Spending Time with Friends

This year, I also really got the opportunity to meet more amazing ladies in the blogging community in Phoenix! December was a packed month with photoshoots, brunches, parties, and more and I feel so happy to be able to spend time with so many fun people!

Anyway – I know this post was kind of quick and mostly just a small recap of fun holiday outfits, but it’s December and I’ve got time to set some goals for next year. Trust me – good things are coming.

Merry Christmas to all! (Or Hanukkah or whatever else you celebrate!)

Hi - my name is Kirsten! I am currently based in Chicago after a long cross-country move from Arizona. What will you find here? I love sharing all things sustainability and slow fashion, any of my day-to-day shenanigans, the latest new hobbies I picked up, and whatever concert or music festival I can find. Welcome and thanks for popping in to my little corner of the world wide web!

I love your style and enjoyed the overview of your holiday outfits, Kirsten! I have also been trying to expand my style, and found that shapewear can be a girls best friend even if you are comfortable with your body shape overall, it opens up a lot of options in my wardrobe by making me feel even more comfortable.

Hope you had a Merry Christmas too!

I really love your take on shapewear with how it can be a great addition to everyone’s closet, no matter what shape or size. After reading this, I’m really eager to try some out for myself and see the difference it makes in my outfits.

I have a few pieces and they’re great for little dresses or even under a tight top! I find myself wearing them more than I thought I would!
