What to Wear to Coachella

Coachella might be one of the most recognized festivals of the year. To me, Coachella feels like the start of summer (and festival season) and it only seems to get better from there. While it gets a bit of a reputation for being the ‘Influencer festival,’ I loved my time at Coachella. Now, I went for Weekend 2 and usually Weekend 2 gets the reputation for being the ‘non-celebrity’ weekend, so keep that in mind.

When I decided to go to Coachella, I went super last minute. By last minute, I mean that I decided I was going on Wednesday night, bought my ticket, and drove to the festival the next day. If you’re traveling further than the 5 hour drive I had, you probably have a bit more time to plan ahead than I did. I picked all of my outfits in less than 24 hours with what I had in my closet. While cute, I definitely wanted to come up with some cuter looks.

First thing’s first; comfortable shoes are everything at a music festival. Your feet will likely swell with all the walking and even your most comfortable shoes will be tested. For myself, My go-to shoes that I would recommend are Dr. Martens (with insoles), Timberland boots, Converse (although this depends on your foot), or Adidas Ultraboosts. For reference, my Timberlands or Converse were great all day at Coachella. I’ve even worn my Dr. Martens for a small two-day festival and all day at EDC, but I couldn’t wear my Dr. Martens for two days in a row at EDC. It will all depend on how much walking you do and Coachella is a walking-heavy festival just because of the sheer size.

Now – into the good stuff. The pre-sale for Coachella was on June 16 and, believe it or not, the tickets are already sold out. That doesn’t mean you can’t go, but you may have to consider resale (which is what I did). If you are planning to go (or planning to snag tickets later) – it’s never too early to start planning those outfits.

For those who love the EDM tent:

One thing that you will always see at Coachella is crochet or knitwear of some kind. It’s truly my goal to eventually knit or crochet my own top to wear to this festival, but my ADHD has kept me from that so far. I always start projects to not quite finish in time. But – these Farm Rio shorts are perfect if you want to skip that crafty bit but still fit into the artsy aesthetic. And the knee high Dr. Martens? One of my favorite concert items! They can get a little warm so I’d recommend them on a day where you plan on going in later since it does cool down at night.

You don’t need a clear bag at Coachella, but it’s not a bad idea to have one. Fanny packs and hydropacks are fine too.

If Harry Styles is in your top Artists:

For a vibe that says you definitely listen to Harry Styles, a top that isn’t made from fabric will fit in and still stand out. Layer it over a cute bralette and pair with some sheer pants to fully lean into the see-through trend we’ve seen this year and likely will see continue.

For those who want to stand out in all black:

I love being able to fully express my style at Coachella, which means I can wear something a little more revealing if I’d like. However, I still like to feel supported, so a corset bra top is the perfect mix. Paired with a cute slip and Dr. Martens – you have a unique look even if you want to stick to an all-black outfit.

So – what trends do you anticipate seeing next year and what do you plan on wearing?
