Purl Girl Summer: Earth Crop

I’ve been putting off sharing this recent knit for a bit and I honestly couldn’t tell you why. It’s super freakin’ cute.

Let me introduce you to the Earth Crop. It’s a pretty simple knit and it looks way harder than it actually was. I might even describe this one as a beginner pattern.

For this top, I used Coast to Coast Yarn Co Signature Sock in Sled Dogs. I was worried that I was going to run out (I didn’t) so I ended up making the top a little shorter than I intended. If I knit this again, I would add some length to the bottom so that I could wear this top comfortably with a strapless bra. Unfortunately, it’s a little too cropped to wear with a bra, so I may have to opt for braless, boob tape, or a bandeau. I would also use a stretchier cast on and cast off method, as mine is a little tight, especially at the bottom.

The ties give me a little bit of support, but probably not as much as I think is ideal for hauling around G-cups all day.

The top is knit from the bottom up with fingering weight yarn. The I-cord straps are knit from the front and then attached to the back. The front tie pieces are then cast on from the sides, so no seaming is required. I knit this top in a Large with just one skein, so it’s a budget friendly summer knit too.

I styled it with a pair of Reformation denim shorts, a vintage belt, and a silk button down, which is my new favorite way to wear crop tops lately. I don’t often say that I look cool wearing handknits, but it makes me feel pretty damn cool.
