Key Components of a Perfect Early Fall Outfit

It’s official – I found my new favorite fall outfit. (Speaking of which – happy first day of Fall!) I’ve talked a bit about how it feels to finally feel comfortable in more own skin, which is amazing. But what I feel like I never realized until now was how restricted I felt in my own personal style because I didn’t like my body. As I’ve become more comfortable, it’s been easier to experiement with different silhouettes and shapes and stray a bit more from my usual look.

Modcloth sent me this unbelievably soft sweater and these cute fall booties and I knew immediately that they would be on repeat this fall. Instead of pairing them with my usual high waisted jeans, I opted for a vintage silk polka dot skirt. As soon as I put on the outfit – I fell in love.

If you’re a fellow Arizona resident, you know that it doesn’t really cool down that much here in the winter. Sure, we’ll get a few days in the 50s, but other than that, pretty much perfect weather down here. That’s why this sweater and skirt combo is the perfect look for us warm-weather dwellers. As I told my lovely photographer (check out fellow AZ babe Kimberly here), “oh my goodness I look like a fall goddess.”

I promise this won’t be the last time you see these booties or this sweater in the next few months, even if it’s on my Instagram stories during busy season from the late nights in the audit room.

Now, I’m sure you’re not just here for details about work life. Let’s get into the crucial items you need for the perfect fall outfit:

A loose knit sweater

When it comes to early fall, you don’t want to get into those heavy knits too early. This knit, while not exactly lightweight, is looseknit, so it’s super breathable. I’m shooting fall content while it’s still in the triple digit temperatures, so it was critical that this sweater had just enough ventilation to survive the photoshoot.

I recommend with sticking to lightweight sweaters and very loose knits for early fall, before those temperatures start dropping too much.

Cute Booties

I’m not quite breaking out those knee high leather boots yet, but I can’t keep myself away from cute ankle booties. Just peep these tan ones from Modcloth. They look just as adorable with jeans (as the temperatures drop) as they do with just about any length of skirt.

Loose Skirts (That Look Good With Tights)

I love skirts. Can you tell? I’m sure you’ve noticed my recent love for midi skirts – this isn’t the first one I’ve picked up this year. The navy color and fun polka dot prints makes this one fun for summer, but paired with an ivory sweater, it can transition seamlessly into fall.

It still feels a bit too hot to transition fully to heavy pants, but loose skirts are perfect to match with light sweaters in early fall. If the temperatures start dropping a bit fast, you can even layer them over tights!

A Light Jacket

Early fall is a bit like April 25th – not too hot, not too cold, all you need is a light jacket. I didn’t quite need one on the day this outfit was shot, but it’s perfect to drape over the shoulders or throw on for those cool fall mornings and evenings!
