I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; I’m not good at meal prepping and I hate grocery shopping. I’m practicing more cooking and planning for the week and even starting to grow my own food, so there’s hope that maybe I’ll be good at it, but that day is still not today.

Now, if you’ve been following me for a while, you also probably know that I studied accounting and went to work in the audit practice for PwC after I graduated. If you don’t know anything about audit, let me start with definining busy season; from January to mid-March we hole ourselves up in an audit room and live and breathe the audit. That usually means things like eating healthy can go by the wayside. This year, I swore I wouldn’t let that happen.

Returning from the firm shutdown (and a bit of PTO) on January 6, I scheduled my first busy season delivery from Freshly, having used them several times in college. They basically have weekly deliveries, which you can skip or even schedule as bi-weekly, and I chose to have everything delivered on Mondays to eat throughout the week.

Now, Freshly isn’t the cheapest option out there, but it’s slightly cheaper than eating out and I know I’ll make a healthier choice if I pick my food ahead of time. I signed up for the 9-meal option with deliveries on Monday evenings and decided to freeze anything I didn’t eat during the week. I planned to have these for both lunch and dinner on weekdays. You do have the option to skip deliveries (by a certain date) and change your order plan, so I could change my delivery options at any time.

When I think about microwave-meals, tastiness is really not something that comes to mind. However, Freshly did change my mind about that. These meals are prepared fresh and designed to be eaten in 3-5 days, so they actually do taste fresh and homemade. However, this did depend a lot on what I ordered.

There are certain things I do not like eating leftover, like mac n’ cheese, or fish, so I tended to stay away from meals like that. However, I love pasta and any dish with chicken and rice, so I tried a lot of things like that.

Part of the reason I chose to go with Freshly was convenience, but a big reason was actually to help me make healthier choices. When ordering dinner at work, I am not known for making healthy choices. But, when I picked all my meals ahead of time, I almost forced myself to make healthier choices.

I’ve tried a lot of Freshly’s options and I have to say, I’m satisfied with nearly everything I got. I have some personal favorites for sure, but when eaten within the week, Freshly proved to be almost just as good as having the fresh meal.

This service helped me immensely over busy season and, after busy season ended and I started working from home, I paused my service. However, during the national quarantine, this proved to be a great service for those who didn’t feel comfortable going to the grocery store or who didn’t have time to cook with entire families now stuck together in the home.

If you’re looking for a way to save time or need a little assistace with meals throughout the week, Freshly might be the perfect option for you. For $60 off your first 4 orders, just click the link below to get started!
