Trendy or Timeless: The Slip Dress

The slip dress: truly a classic piece in every woman’s closet. If there is one style that has had a stronghold on the fashion blogging community since it started, it has to be the slip dress. I’ve seen this style dress styled a ton of different ways over my blogging years, so I think it’s safe to say it’s this dress isn’t going anywhere.

I have a few slip dresses in my closet, a couple in a midi length and a few in a mini length. Personally, I tend to prefer a shorter length because I do struggle with how midi dresses look with my calves. When it comes to styling a midi length slip dress, I prefer to wear it with something that defines my waist or heels to lengthen the look of my legs. While I might be pickier about the slip dresses I have in my closet and how I like to wear them, the slip dress is still a staple.

So, my vote? Timeless. So invest in a quality piece.

Silk Laundry

When it comes to getting a slip dress, I do recommend silk. The natural fabric just feels so much nicer than a satin or polyester blend. The slip dress I’m wearing in this post is from Silk Laundry, which is where I plan on making my silk top purchases from here on out.

I’m wearing a size Large in this post, however, I do feel I could have sized down to a medium. I may take this dress in at the waist for a slightly more figure-skimming look.

While Silk Laundry doesn’t offer a lot of information on their site, they do have several nods towards working to be more sustainable. They built the brand on the foundation of “luxury, conscious living and philanthropy.”

They are currently working to collaborate with organisations working against animal endangerment, environmental disasters and social injustice as well as eliminate the use of plastics, implementing more organic and recycled materials and using natural dyes derived from plants. They are currently working towards becoming a certified B Corporation and, which brings me more confidence that I’m purchasing from a brand that is in line with my values.

I do hope they work to become more transparent, but so far, this is the best brand I’ve found for quality silk pieces. They might not be perfect, but when it comes to making more conscious fashion choices, I’d go with this one.
