I’ve been wanting to learn to sew for nearly all of my adult life, so when I did finally pick up the hobby, I had a ton of patterns already saved to my queue. The Esme Skirt by Tint of Mint patterns was one of them.
The pattern itself is so simple and so wearable; I knew it would fit perfectly in my wardrobe for summer in plenty of colors and patterns.
Pattern Overview
Designer: Tint of Mint
Details: high waist, wrap-over detail, button fastening, tie front
Skill level: Beginner
Size Range: UK 4-24 / EU 32-52 / US 0-20/ AU 4-24
Yardage: 1.27 Meters/1.4 Yards
Fabric Recommendations: linen, cotton, poly, satin, crepe, corduroy
My Fabric Choice:
I went with this everyday chambray from Fableism, which is a lovely blend of cotton and bamboo. While Fableism is technically a quilting cotton, I love recommending their fabric for apparel. It has such a wearable drape and it’s very soft against the skin.
It’s a 44″ fabric, so I think I purchased 1.5 yards, but it’s been a while since my initial purchase. I actually purchased it in multiple colors so I could make it again! I also plan to make this in linen, since it really is the perfect summer skirt.
Construction Notes:
Honestly, this pattern came together so quickly, even for a newbie sewer! I tackled this project about 3 months into sewing (it was one of my first garments) and I feel like the instructions were super clear. Plus, there is a YouTube tutorial you can follow if you are confused about any steps.
The pattern pieces are large, and there aren’t a ton of small, finicky pieces, so it’s also easy to manage all the pieces of the skirt. If you have some experience sewing, you could easily finish this in an afternoon, but it would also make a great day project for a beginner.
Overall fit:
This skirt is a timeless style. I already reach for this one again and again, so I know I’ll keep reaching for it if I make it in more colors.
There’s not much to say; it’s an easy, uncomplicated pattern with a super high payoff. If you’re looking for the perfect summer mini skirt, look no further.
