My New Go-to Summer Pullover: The Pogonip Pullover

What better way to show off this gorgeous kantha fabric than a simple pullover?

One of my goals this summer is to start sewing through my fabric stash. While I was working at a small sewing shop in Boulder, I acquired way too much fabric (is there ever such a thing as too much?), and now it’s time to face the music in the absolute best way.

One of the projects I cut out last month was this Pogonip Pullover from Friday Pattern Company. I saw the fabric when it arrived in store and I knew I had to make something simple to show it off. The fabric itself was a little expensive, so I did my best to choose a pattern that didn’t require a ton of yardage.

The Pogonip Pullover had been on my to-sew list for quite some time, and truthfully checked most of my boxes. The little details of the welt pocket, front plackets, collars, and even elastic casings on the hem and sleeves were great to show off the reversible nature of the fabric. Although I have yet to add the buttons, I’ve already been throwing this pullover on during cool summer nights.

Details:

Pattern: Pogonip Pullover

Brand: Friday Pattern Company

Size Range: XS/0 – 7X/32 (I made the size Large)

Fabric: Kantha – Madras – Rainbow Plaid – Windham Fabrics

Pattern Tutorial:

I generally like my clothing (especially pullovers and jackets) to fit just a bit oversized, so I opted to make the size Large. If I were to make this again, I might take just a bit of the room out of the body, but overall I’m pretty happy with the fit, especially in the shoulders and chest.

Welt pockets were a new skill for me, and I was, admittedly, pretty nervous to give them a try (especially since I didn’t practice before cutting into this fabric – call me crazy, I guess). I probably would have been even more nervous had Friday Pattern Company not provided a super clear tutorial; it was truly a great resource.

My thoughts on the pattern:

Will I make this again? Absolutely. I love a little pullover. I probably have way too many of them already. But I have some cute patterned fleece from our poor girl Joann that would make an adorable fall hiking pullover. I think I could also use fabric scraps to make a fun festival-ready pullover too. I have a few other patterns to get to first, but this one will definitely be on repeat in the future.
